If you really like to copy sockets, use  a better archive format.

If you use star -copy (see EXAMPLES in the star man page), you will get the
best archive format by default and it will speed up the copy process.
Star -copy is the fastest known method to copy filesystems (~20% faster
than ufsdump | ufsrestore) in case you use a decently large FIFO (e.g. 64m).

Note that star does not yet copy extended attribute files, but so far I know
nobody who uses them.
