Windows filesystems mounted by Linux

Dear star users.

Does anybody have any experience or tips on how to backup a local Windows
XP partition mounted by linux.

I am required to create a backup scrip on this dual boot system. XP and
Linux.  The filesystem will be mounted read-only by the linux system.

Choice of windows filesystem is my query in this case. The partition is a
non-system partition. Thus data only, no large files. Also this is a
single user system. So no great need for extended attributes or ACLs etc.
