Xattr, wtardumps and dead symlinks

Hello,

I'm trying to backup using star-1.5a60 with the following command line:
star -c -xattr -acl -H=exustar -xdev -link-dirs -v -tpath level=0 -wtardumps 
tardumps=/backup/tar_indexfile.test f=/backup/test.day_0.lv_0.2006-09-14.tar 
-C /home .

If there is a symlink in the backup path with no target a message like this is 
produced:
star: No such file or directory. Cannot listxattr for 'HELO3'.
HELO3
star: 4 blocks + 0 bytes (total of 40960 bytes = 40.00k).
star: The following problems occurred during archive processing:
star: Cannot: stat 0, open 0, read/write 0. Size changed 0.
star: Missing links 0, Name too long 0, File too big 0, Not dumped 0.
star: Cannot get xattr: 1 set xattr: 0.
star: Processed all possible files, despite earlier errors.
star: '/backup/tar_indexfile.test' not written due to problems during backup.

The result is a functional tar file but no tar dump dates data base. Changing 
-xattr to -xattr-linux results in the same behaviour.

If I omit the -xattr option it works out very well, but when restoring such a 
dump the extended attributes are not correct. When using -xattr 
it restores with the correct extended attributes.

I am using a Fedora Core 4 system and the ext3 file system was built using 
Fedora Core 4. 

Is there a way to backup with -wtardumps and -xattr even when there are dead 
symlinks?
