Preferred way to submit patch

Hello, I follow ardour development for some time now (compile from sources, look at new functionalities, read source code trying to understand how it works…) and I would contribute to fix issues. I already submit (little) patches on Mantis for issues 6523, 6609 and 6677 and I plan to try to fix some other ones. Is there a preferred way to submit little code changes ? Mantis via patches or GitHub via pull requests ? If I keep using Mantis, there is no status "Fix proposed". Is there a particular status that I must use in that case ? Ardour is a very great software!! I like it!
