I just found this OLD post (2017) in my junk folder! Omg.<br>

YES ? we start jack via qjackctl at login. So jackd is running when ardour =
is started. Is this unusual??<br>
<br>
Our audio stack is ALSA ? Jack ? Pulseaudio<br>
<br>
Moreso, pipewire seems to be taking over. Our gentoo systems want to ?defau=
lt? to prefer pipewire over pulseaudio.<br>
I have undone the USE flags to have pulseaudio, but will probably soon go w=
ith pipewire. We have jack in there<br>
(between pa & alsa) so we can run OpenAL and address our ring of 14.2 s=
peakers.<br>

It's very unlikely that Ardour is to blame for that sound...<br>
You are starting jack before Ardour, with qjackctl? I'm asking because<br>
some interfaces behave badly when they come up (I've seen that with a<br>
few fireware-based ones), but it's strange you're seeing this both with<br>
a pro RME device <em>and</em> a CMI chip.<br>
What could happen is that you are using a session with a badly behaved<br>
plugin. Something that emits a constant DC signal comes to mind -<br>
inaudible during normal operation, but will cause a pop when you connect it=
.<br>
Or does it happen with a new, empty Ardour session as well?<br>
