Remote Control Ardour with Tablet/laptop

Hi everyone,
What are people doing to remotely control your Ardour sessions from 
another room and device?

I have a master "control room" that has my main computer and big screens 
running ardour and all the main hardware etc.  I have a separate live 
recording room (down some stairs) that is where all the mics instruments 
are.

Is there a away to remotely control my Ardour sessions from the 
recording room? I don't need everything, mostly transport, 
start/stop/record etc. A timeline and basic channel levels/gain etc 
settings.
I'm thinking of using either a tablet, or a small laptop for the remote.

I'm just not sure how to make this work, and I would like advice from 
folks who are doing this already.
Any advice?
