I think that the key word here is patches. I can happily patch the
wxWidgets package built from the standard sources with umpteen patches
but I can't create a new conflicting package.
I dislike snaps flatpacks because they are big and cumbersome. A big
point that Linux has over windows is the size of the installation.
I notice that the audacity/wxWidgets package states that all bugs are
directed to wxWidgets trax. Somehow I don't think that they will
accept bugs against your fork.
