A lot of apps play sound. So, what playback device exactly are you using? What device is selected in Audacity's Device Toolbar or Devices Preferences? You could attach Audacity's Audio Device Info (in the Help menu). Stop playback first (not just pause). Click OK in the Audio Device Info window and you can save a text file listing all your audio devices. Attach the file for us.
