How to run amplify on a number of tracks?

I have created a macro to normalize a number of tracks but I don't see
an easy way to amplify just one side (i.e. L or R) of a series of
stereo tracks.

Doing it manually is quite clumsy as you have to split tracks, select
the one you want to amplify, then 'unsplit' the tracks and save the
result.

Is there a simpler way of applying amplify to one side of a stereo
track?

I can't use Normalize because I want to maintain the relative levels
of a series of tracks in one album, I just want to balance the stereo.
