shifting start and end of song

I'm seeing a pretty consistent behavior while ripping CDs using
cdparanoia (through grip).  The start and end of each song is shifted
forward by a second or so.  In other words, each song starts a second
late, and ends with the first second of the next song.  This has
happened on over 90% of the CDs I've ripped so far.  Is there anything I
can do to fix this?
