i'm trying to rip CDs on my 256 meg Gateway 450MHz P3 running RH 7.3.

when i type cdparanoia -B, the cdrom drive light comes on and mostly
stays on, but blinks off occasionally. i never see any "progress". i
tried "-o" offsets from 5 to 75 with no joy.

i can get progress with the -Z switch, but then i just get noise in the
.wav file.

apparently, i have a HITACHI CDR-7830.

can anyone help?

thanks,
