Here's another suggestion for a perl wrapper. Recently I put on CPAN
Device::Cdio, which is a Perl interface to libcdio. At present it just
includes the device, disc and track parts of libcdio. Extending it I
think is pretty straight-forward based on what's there.

Run cdparanoia --help and read the section called OUTPUT SMILIES and
PROGRESS BAR SYMBOLS.
