One should at least find out a bit more before exposing oneself at LKML. What do you get from this command ? cdrecord -scanbus Does it work with programs which use the SCSI block device ? eject /dev/sr0 eject /dev/scd0 (I assume it is your only CD drive. Else try also 1, 2, ...)
