new user: about embedded audio compression

Hi All, I have a question about using speex for audio compression in an embedded system (iMote2 sensor node) in which audio samples are caputured and to be transmitted. Does speex work well for such embedded platform that has PXA271 ARM-XScale processor?. what about speex's requirement of floating point unit?. would you please guide me to tutorials or examples on using speex library as i am new to it and i don't know where to start.
