Compiling csound 4.24.1, Suse8.2

Hi all,
After spending the whole day trying to compile a version, any version, 
of csound on this Suse8.2 machine I seem to be almost there using 
version 4.24.1 from 
http://csounds.com/istvan/archive/misc/Csound-4.24.1.tar.bz2

After fiddling with the Makefile.defs I have gotten it to compile but it 
is sticking at the link stage with this message:

ld: libcsound32.so: undefined versioned symbol name 
_ZSt10time_put_w@@GLIBCPP_3.2


I'm using these compilers:
g++ (GCC) 3.3 20030226 (prerelease) (SuSE Linux)
gcc (GCC) 3.3 20030226 (prerelease) (SuSE Linux)
