I chose 17 samples from the tune and then used diskin
alone for the instrument design, handling all the
manipulations in the score.  I wrote an algorithm in C
to spit out a score file with random degrees of pitch
shifting, rhythmic duration, forward/backward
playback, etc.

That was my initial choice as well, but I coded out
the declick envelope I'd inserted later... I'd prefer
more aggression for this specific situation but in
general I do not like clicks either... Btw, I
specifically took samples from the LP, not a CD,
without trying to remove any scratches or pops... I
liked that aspect of lofi sound so didn't go to any
other lengths to polish things. Thanks for listening.
