There has been some discussion recently on the Linux Audio User about
the 2.6 kernel.  Apparently the low lat and preemptive patches didn't
make their way into this release... yet.  Some users reported that using
>=2.4.21 (patched) is more reliable.  They could not achieve comparable
latencies on the 2.6 for audio recording and real-time audio in
general.
