they may have been rumours, they may not have.  A lot of
what is said about him is true, and a lot isn't.

I think he did/does use csound and similar ( I know
Autechre do use Max/MSP. )
he also afaik built his own synths and used other stuff.

you do not need something like csound to do drums like he
does.  you could probably do it in any wave editor or any
sequencer.

I'm not at all sure what you mean by "seamlessly
manipulates."

He has all sorts of processing tricks, I am sure.

I know his music very well and own lots of it, so if there
are particular examples of what you're looking for, give me
the track name, and time in the track if applicable, I will
take a listen tonight and see if I can intuit what I think
he might be doing.

I suspect that as with most interesting percussion
(including that of live drummers) it has to do with
attention to detail combined with experimentation.  I don't
think there is anything mystical or even necessarily highly
complex going on.
