Or is there another simpler > way that I'm missing? Have you considered using PD with [csound~] external? I'm not sure if and how using csound'd midi capabilities is possible within PD, though. However, pd has rather powerful tools for manipulating midi (and numbers in general) and you can use it to generate csound scores on the fly. You can also use LADSPA plugins so everything could be running in one place.
