You could uses as many MIDI messages as you want bits thinking of them as LSB and MSB groups. CsoundAV currently supports 14-bit and 21-bit controllers easily, but there's no reason why you couldn't have a 28 or 35 bit controller. (apart from possible message de-synchronization). I currently connect csound and PD using 14-bit messages and it works very well.
