All of the times I had similar problems it turned out to be related to 
non-csound stuff. Either an update of the system (debian/unstable) or 
addition of new hardware (ie sound card). This doesn't mean that your 
problem could actually be csound bug (or a bug in one of the patches!), 
just to say it might be good th think really hard if you did any 
upgrades, changes in setup or addition of hardware that could cause 
csound to break.

NB: I never use csound with any graphics live. In fact I shut down X 
(along with other services) from the script that launches csound. So I 
don't know if that area of csound could be the problem.
