Fair enough. Other recommendations that popped into my head after firing of
my previous email:

* Payware: MediaMonkey has a good reputation.
* Freeware: supposedly iTunes (a.k.a. The Software Formerly Known As
Bloatware ;-) ) has improved quite a bit.
* Open source alternative: http://beets.io/.

YMMV/disclaimer: I haven't used any of these, but apparently all programs
can deal quite well with auto-tagging large media libraries based on
similar heuristics like I mentioned previously.

You can also try posting your question over at http://hydrogenaud.io/,
you'll probably get some other useful advice.

An aside: one thing I've always liked about Mp3tag is that it trawls
folders _recursively_; tagging album by album piecemeal would indeed be
very tedious.
