I think this is true now, but when SACD was first introduced Sony put 
out a TON of non-hybrid, stereo-only titles. Even as an audio nerd, the 
point eluded me.

To be fair, what used to come out on DVD-A now comes out on Blu-ray. So 
you get exactly the same PCM encoding but the ability to store more 
music on the disc. There are some nice Yes and XTC reissues out there 
which were released both as DVD-A and Blu-ray, with the latter adding 
even more music. The more recent releases have been Blu-ray only because 
that's what was selling. It's probably for the best simply because any 
Blu-ray player will work whereas DVD-A requires a specifically 
compatible player.

Without a surround layer, SACD seems pretty pointless. And as Audio 
Fidelity learned the hard way, the market for perfect reproduction of 
old quad mixes isn't what they and the fans had hoped.
