I do own both the original EAC and Easy Audio Copy. Obviously, there was no upfront cost for EAC, but I did pay the extra ($10?) to have the GD3 database. I know one of the reasons for charging upfront for Easy Audio Copy is because it comes with support for GD3 automatically. So I paid twice for GD3 but I have no problem with that. I just wish I could tell for sure where it is getting the album information from. With EAC, I have the option of choosing GD3 or one of the free databases. Easy Audio Copy doesn't give me an option and doesn't tell me where the information comes from, nor does it give me an option to upload corrections or missing data anywhere so I could help improve the database.
All that being said, I'm totally happy with both products but use Easy Audio Copy the most. I can't think of any improvements that I would like to see. Which is probably a good thing. Despite you comments to the contrary, I don't think Easy Audio Copy is being actively supported either. All the web pages are copywrited 2013, Supported OSs are Vista, Win7 and Win8. (How long has Win10 been out now?) And the latest version is 1.0.2.7. There is a history of all revisions on the web page, but they aren't dated. So,there is no way to tell if it was updated 2 days ago, 2 weeks ago, 2 months ago, 2 years ago or 5 years ago (the last time the web page was updated.
This is by no means a criticism. I'm only pointing out continuing support is a little suspect. But I love them both and will continue to use them as long as they work on my systems. As an old Bell Labs retiree, I've used UNIX and Linux for years. I'm glad to hear it will work via WINE. I've never tried it.
