Thanks, copying art thumbnail should be no problem especially as the file
size is small.  I recognize that it does have a database that will show all
the digital media; however, regarding searching cds from the pc drive that
is for a separate database of my collection that would allow me to catalog
all my music.  For example the Beatle's White Album, let's assume I have a
vinyl LP, 8 Track tape, Cassette, cd and have ripped it to Flac and mp3.  I
would like to have a catalog program that would allow me to input that I own
this album and within that record to indicate all the different media that I
own for that album.  Since the tracks are the same for the album regardless
of media (I do recognize that as new media comes out some albums actually
add additional tracks, but that is the exception), if I put the CD into my
drive and do a look up like can be done in EAC then I don't need to manually
input a large portion of data.  Lastly, if I do not have a CD then I would
like to be able to fill in artist/album info and have a lookup that will
provide the same info that the cd look up does.

 

I have seen a number of cataloging programs that will look up cds, but you
need to have separate records for each medium.  Also if you don't have a cd
to look up they do not have a manual look up function that you can put in
artist/album and do a lookup.  I have looked at media monkey before, but
didn't look too hard.  It seems like it will deal with my digital collection
in a manner I would like, but the bigger issue to me is my larger collection
as I want to use a subset of that for my digital collection and don't really
want to do multiple passes to input it.

I use MediaMonkey, mainly because iTunes struggled with a very large
collection - or it used to. I
gave up on it years ago. You can select which drives you want it to search,
and while it does make a
local database which copies thumbnails of disc artwork, it doesn't try to
copy all your music files
into it's own database. It does have enough file tagging scope to cover your
needs, has it's own
built in player & can sync devices. As for entering your individual CDs, as
opposed to rips, I think
it probably can do that too, but I'm not 100% sure, as I've not tried.
