I’m sorry and disappointed that you ran into so many problems. On my iMac Pro, I rely on XLD, which is an incredibly useful converter/ripper. I drag just about any audio files to the XLD icon in the dock. I normally have it convert to all of these formats, saving each to a separate directory structure:
Apple Lossless 16/44.1
Apple Lossless 16/48
Apple Lossless 24/96
LAME MP3
LAME MP3 48K sampling
Apple Lossless native bits/rate
I know that seems insane, but there’s a method to my madness. I have several devices (including the iPod Classic in my car) that are limited to 48kHz/16 bit as well as others that are incapable of dealing with Apple Lossless. Some of my USB DACs are limited to 96k sampling rate. So if I feed XLD a 192/24 FLAC file, I just keep the outputs at sampling rates of 192k, 96k, and 48k. I’m not a fan of uneven sample rate divisors for resampling, so I don’t want to start at 96K or 192K and take it to 44.1K; I want to take it to 48K. Since I’m running on an 8-core Xeon iMac Pro, there’s no real penalty, speed-wise, for doing that.
