I have no idea how to find that out -- I've looked online for the model # and I

Hmm. In my config, the *only* option I have is "current" -- no speed choices
drop down. Can my PC, which is brand new, really come with the last slow,
non-adjustable speed CD/ROM drive? Something seems amiss. It knows my
model -- it found that out by itself but perhaps this and the accurate rip setting
are the result of its not having my drive in its database so it doesn't know any of
the right values?

Aha -- good old amazon I'm pretty sure this is it:

and its description says the sort of thing I would've expected:
Read Speed: DVD-ROM/DL: 8X CD-R:24X CD-RW: 24X CD-ROM: 24X
Why won't EAC let me tell it "24X"? and is there some way to find out the read
offset value?
