cheap. You'll pay less for one BD disc than the number of DVDs to store the same amount of data.
How about joining the 21st century and not using one-time-write optical discs for general data storage? You can get a 128GB USB 3.1 flash drive at Micro Center for $9.99. That’s 5x the storage of a BD-R disc and it can be rewritten thousands of times. Unlike DVD drives, Blu-Ray drives are relatively uncommon on personal computers, making BD-R discs unappealing as data distribution media.
Unless your goal is to form another optical disc layer through which future archaeologists must dig in order to reach the AOL free CD layer, I’m not seeing much appeal to BD-R for most users.

Everything correct for all of you…
But…there is a reason in using optical media (blue ray) for data storage, in my opinion.
This reason is reliability.
Flash drives are very unaffordable. You save data, switch off – switch on, and data have gone….
This is particularly true for USB sticks, but generally the risk is associated with flash media.
Optical media can get bad but slowly, if you check surface regularly you can realise data degradation before the disk have become unreadable.
I have several videos saved in BD, typically videos are data that don’t need to be deleted and resaved, but stays in the time.
