Does this mean the EAC group will going to Gmail or the like. I am not hap=
py about the shutdown. I just would like the group to continue in one form =
or another.

I may have mentioned this before, but I used to work for V*r*z*n. Whatever =

This was not something making the rounds via the rumor mill, this was somet=
hing management was explicitly telling employees during conference calls. I=
t wasn't subtle or coded, it wasn't subject to misinterpretation, it was th=
eir plan. And this was back when Amazon was the target, before so many were=

about how the domestic network was not being used at anywhere near capacit=
y, so they really had no excuse whatsoever.

I can pretty much guarantee that that's exactly the case. And if some of th=
ose employees have other duties that make for a more smooth and pleasant cu=
stomer experience, well, those functions aren't going to be taken over by t=
he survivors, they simply won't be done by anyone.
=20
V*r*z*n started out as an incumbent landline monopoly and never quite lost =
the attitude that they could do whatever they wanted because no one had alt=
ernatives. They do have a good cell phone network (and charge accordingly) =
and their FiOS Internet service is generally good. But if you're wondering =
why you don't have access to FiOS where you live, there's a good chance it'=
s because the people who would build the network are union. FiOS has been q=
uite profitable for the company, but they made a decision several years bac=
k (which, to be fair, may have since been rescinded) that they would no lon=
ger expand coverage, not because they weren't making money, but because the=
y didn't want to pay people what they were worth to further build it, even =
though that would have meant making even more money later.
=20
Possibly my favorite of their many, many quirks was related to catching bil=
ling errors: If a process was in place to identify potential over- or under=
-billing or other issues but that process had not caught anything for a whi=
le, they wanted that process shut off. Even something as non-time consuming=
on an auditor's part as getting a report saying =E2=80=9CNo errors found=
=E2=80=9D was deemed wasteful. They simply assumed that if something hadn't=
gone wrong for a given period of time, it would simply never go wrong. The=
y got bit by that, but didn't care.

But remember, if they don't lay off thousands every quarter despite having =
record profits, they can't =E2=80=9Cinnovate=E2=80=9D.

One of the reasons I chose retirement was that they wanted us all to move a=

A few years later, the pandemic hit and=E2=80=A6well, I'd really like to k=
