it would indeed be about time to get this. The simplest case for this 
was requested already in 2002 by Jeremy Hall, and still unimplemented:

Changing the interpolation in -klg is potentially even simpler. I'll bump 
it up in my local backlog.

Anyone else by any chance interested in trying this out? This doesn't need 
a major surgery of the codebase.

This does remind I'd need to wrap and push out 2.9.1. Probably not much 
time for feature development this year anymore, but perhaps one or two 
smaller things.
