multichannel LADSPA plugins in ecasound - hints found!

For my reference and for other who might be interested in this topic - it
looks like some hints regarding my previous question are contained herein:

specifically:

.plugin ports are mapped to chain channels, one port per channel. 

.the inputs are mapped to channels 1-N in the order they are enumerated in
the LADSPA plugin descriptor.
