Recording Vocals Advice

Hi,

My current ecasound project looks like so:

ecasound -c -b:512 -f:16,2,44100
                 -n:PNT \
                -a:1 -i audioloop,PNTAudio/PNTV1PiThm1.wav -chcopy -epp:20
-ea:50 \
                -a:2 -i audioloop,PNTAudio/PNTV1PiThm1b.wav -epp:70 -ea:40 \
                -a:3 -i audioloop,PNTAudio/PNTV1Syn1.wav -epp:50 -ea:40 \
                -a:4 -i -audioloop,PNTAudio/vocal_track2.wav -chcopy:1,2
-ea:0 \
                -a:5,6 -i alsahw,1,0 \
                -a:5 chcopy:1,2 ete:1,10,10 \
                -a:6 chcopy:1,2 -o PNTAudio/vocal_track1.wav \
                -a:1,2,3,4,5,6 -o alsa


This will allow me to hear vocals as they're monitored whilst
simultaneously being recorded.

But, there are a couple of things that I'm doing that wonder, could they be
easier??

For example, I need the vocal recording to start straight away, but its
quite hard to anticipate the timing. Is there a away to count in before the
audio plays?
I either have to hit "t" and sort of guess the instance its starts which
definitely isn't a good method. Or, I've been letting the loop play out and
then I start "performing" the vocals on the second loop. This second method
takes up a lot of time first to have to wait to record and on playback.

On play back I have to swap the file Im recording (above is
vocal_track1.wav to another to say vocal_track3.wav. And have vocal_track1
playback at -a:6, and after adjusting the command I have to wait one loop
before hearing the recording(if I use the second method to record).

I hope this makes sense. I has hoping someone more experienced could
comment on my workflow? Is there anything obvious or not so obvious that I
could do/practise to help my process be a little more professional?
