Sending messages to ecasound through ssh / nc

Dear all,

Can I use ssh or nc to send messages to ecasound?

I've started an instance of ecasound:
ecasound -c --server 

In another terminal I typed:
ssh localhost -p 2868

Which gave the following message in the first terminal:
New connection from TCP/IP:127.0.0.1.

But when typing for instance 'h' ecasound doesn't give any response.

Is it possible this way?
