Pardon, I still don't understand what these files are supposed to do.
In case we're talking about whatever patches that are supposed to be 
loadable by the EXS, these have the suffix "exs", as in "PhattBass.exs". 
They are small files containing mapping information and sample location 
references.
And if we're talking about them, I still don't understand your problem.
