exs links broken

A friend is having an issue with most of his exs instruments failing  
to load the samples.
The samples do reside on his computer. But the links seem to be broken.
Any way to fix this without having to buy EXSmanager Pro?
The samples used to load fine and they are the factory samples that  
come with Logic.
He's on the latest version of Logic.
I tried using the Project manager but it didn't help.
