That's right, no need for aliases, the samples can be anywhere.

You can move the sampler Instruments folder also, but you DO need an 
alias pointing to that though (with the alias renamed sampler 
instruments, not "sampler instruments alias"

To relink the EXS with moved samples it's really worth getting redmatica 
EXSManager if you have many samples.
