Create a sampler instrument from a 5min environmental recording

Hi

I am rather new to the more in-depth functions of the EXS. I currently have LP7.2 (getting L8 
tomorrow),

What I would like some help with is an easy way to create a sampler instrument from a long 
recording by zeroing in on short sounds in the recording and dropping them on keys on the 
keyboard.

Does this potentially have to involve the sample editor?
