Tiger and MTP and AW8 = no communication

Hi I just upgraded my OS from OS Jaguar to OS Tiger 10.4.6 What was working in Jaguar no longer works in Tiger. My serial port (connected to the original MTP) is not recognized by L7.1.1 and my AW8 sound card is not recognized. Any ideas on how to get these elements working together?
