Connecting a firewire audio interface to Logic 7 xpress?

I have logic xpress 7 an really stuck for many days after buying this, I'm completely new at this an cannot get further than hearing the apple loops playing through the monitor output (Therefore is working as plug an play after changing some audio settings),, BUT want to be recording a synth into the sequencer for recording in realtime,, I had someone at apple store tell me there are members of this community who could help,, If there is anyone who knows how to get this complex problem sorted please help me out as this is very confusing,, I have read the manual but still am not understanding anything,, I need to know how to wire via the ENVIRONMENT??(Which is complex as I'm completely new to logic)???
