Another reason to keep it turned on is that sometimes I launch MIDI programs without my studio turned on, and I don't want to deal with dialogs about not being able to find the MIDI interface. The transition to USB MIDI in general was a huge PITA. Serial MIDI worked perfectly (except for that horrible DIN connector), and then all of a sudden everything was a mess for a couple of years. Not all the interfaces worked right away. It took MOTU a ROM chip upgrade, and there were other problems. This is all a good ten years ago, though - water under the bridge. Now they all seem to work fine.
