There was a sysex file available with every version of Logic (until  
version 5 AFAIR), which you dump to the unit with SoundDiver or Unitor  
Control. Let me know if you need it (I still have all of my old  
installer disks somewhere). Mind you, in your situation I'd try  
replacing the cable first and only then mess with the firmware.
