Ok, so by removing some duplicate objects in the arrange it stopped doing this weird stuff
(I'm not using the new takes feature yet, so I duplicate the object for a new take).

BUT NOW....to top it all off I closed the project, moved on to something else and then
came back to it and its corrupt! the audio files are in there but NO tracks. I get an error
message saying "project correction taking place" or something like that when I open it.
and ALL the backups are blitz too. I have an older version of the project that seems to be
opening when I resaved as a different name, but what the hell happened and does anyone
know how I can fix it? I trashed prefs, rebooted, etc...haven't tried reinstalling logic yet...I
lost about 5 hours of work... back to 7 for me.
