How are Digi core audio drivers with HD hardware these days?

Hi, Long-time Logic TDM user but since a year ago or so I dropped ESB as it became to limiting. I now compose in Logic, working native with build in Core Audio using digital out (s/p dif going into Cranesong Avocet). I mix in Pro Tools HD-2. Has some drawbacks but it also makes sense to seperate the composition/ production processes. Logic with built-in Core Audio works like a dream - tons of virtual instruments, no latency on the VI's, and I have almost all my TDM plugs as AU versions too. Main issue I have is: I can't use my HD hardware to record audio in Logic so practically this means I can't really record audio when working in Logic. For projects originating mainly from VI's this is not a problem, I'll do overdubs at the mixing stage in PT. But oftentimes I want to record some live instruments somewhere in the composition stage - and then I have to switch to PT just to record some tracks, go back to Logic and import them. That's too much... I also tried composing entirely in PT btw, but to me that's completely unworkable - I can have a couple of VI's next to audio tracks but not more than that, sessions consiting of mainly VI's will just not work in PT. R-TAS seems very inefficient compared to AU when using VI's Anyway, I digress. What I'm contemplating now is: - composing in Logic with Digi Core Audio drivers, so I can use my HD- hardware and Apogee converters for tracking. - mixing in PT HD using TDM But: the last time I used Digi Core Audio drivers is years ago and back then they sucked. Have things improved? Would composing and tracking in Logic with HD hardware under Core Audio be workable? I'm on a Mac Pro running Leopard, still running PT7 and Logic, but already have PT8 and L9 so I can upgrade anytime. Thanks, Ivo ------------------------------------ ________________________________________________________________________ Logic TDM Users Group - new forums! http://logic-users.org/forums/L-TDM - To UNSUBSCRIBE: email [email protected] - Search the entire archive: http://logic-users.org/forums/L-TDM/searchYahoo!
