Master strip won't set to stereo, won't show inserts..

peterlemer has just posted in the Logic 9 forum of Logic Users Group under the title of Master strip won't set to stereo, won't show inserts..

I've checked that that no other strip is set to quad, but even so in this project, my Master strip shows quad, even though there's no button to change it.
Consequently, there are no insert slots and I can't import my favourite settings.
If I use simply Output 1-2, my favourite settings don't appear in the preset menu - I need Master to unify with the other projects in this album.

How do I set my Master to stereo, which I guess would open the insert slots?

I doubt that it's my general Prefs, since the related projects have active and configurable master strips.
