A Sysex message can be of any length; and it cannot be interrupted by
Note On/Off messages once the Sysex message has started. It may also
depend on the synth and how long it takes to process the Sysex message.

This also depends on the synth. I play a Yamaha WX5 MIDI wind
controller that spits out tons of CC messages. With the Yamaha VL70-m
this works very smoothly. I once tried the same thing with a Novation
K-Station, it was almost unusable.

thanks ingo. i only experimented with a few units - the 2 that were problematic almost immediately were the yamaha tg77 and novation drumstation. the fs1r handled things very well.
