Thanks too for the info on the MS MIDI drivers used by the Saffire !
Indeed, I already had trouble with it sending/receiving Sysexes. Instead it worked very well with other interfaces ....

You already installed the 3.X Update?

Other than that try to open the Windows/win.ini file, find 
[Sounddiver] section, check if you find the 
MidiOut_Microsoft_GS_Wavetable_Synth and set it to 0 to deactivate 
it, since it tends to create that type of hangups...

MidiOut_Microsoft_GS_Wavetable_Synth=0

The Saffire MIDI I/Os probably wont work with sounddiver correctly 
unless you use it in 9x compatiblity mode (what I can't recommend, 
since it tends to slow down transfere), since it uses the MS MIDI 
drivers.
