solaris 8 status

I committed the patches for solaris to cvs today.   All nicely wrapped
up in conditionals so it doesn't have any effect on any other builds.  I
have no way of testing this so it's up to any solaris users out there to
give any kind of reports.   

The freeamp lists are dead I suggest anyone using freeamp or zinf and
subscribing to it to subscribe to zinf's lists.
