Hello fdb-announce list-members, The July release of the freedb database archives was released a few days ago. The list of mirrors can be found here: http://www.freedb.org/modules.php?name=Sections&sop=viewarticle&artid=12 Please do not re-download the whole database, if you already have an old complete database archive. All complete database archive releases from 21st of Juli 2001 or newer can be updated using the update-archives. Users of the Unix format database archives can simply extract the update-files over the existing database, while users of the Windows database archives can use the freedb-updater to update their archives. If you need more than one update-file, please make sure, that you apply them in the correct order (i.e. oldest first, newest last). According to the results of the poll on our website, which showed a big interest in rar compressed archives, the freedb-complete files (Unix-format archives) are now also available as .tar.rar. While tar.rar might seem like an odd combination, it yields the best compression results. .rar alone would be bigger than the .tar.bz2 archive. In addition to the database archives, the new version 0.3 of the freedb updater was released. It should be faster now, thanks to some optimizations made by John Fidel. Additionally the updater shows more detailed progress information now and comes with the new version of the Spoon Installer. Best regards, Joerg
