utf-8, xml, new file format for freedb?

Hi

I have been looking for new information on a new file format for freedb. 
So far I have found something about utf-8, but not more than that. Is 
anybody thinking of making a new format? If so, where can I read about it?

Someone must have been discussing this before!?

The current file format for freedb has several drawbacks:

1. The character set is fixed to ISO-8859-1. Work has been done to change 
that to UTF-8. Fine!

2. Missing fields. I have some CD's which is compilation CD's with several 
artists. Here I want to be able to write the name of the artist 
(performer), song writer and the musicians who recorded it.

3. Year of recording. Some CD's like "greatest hits" is recorded different 
years, so the DYEAR only tells which year it was compilated.

4. CD in multilanguage. I got some classic music which is only 
instrumental. These CD's sometimes get sold with another cover in say 
Chineese. The CD is actually the same in both language and thus will give 
the same disc ID. An example can be seen here:

5. Barcode. Most CD's got a barcode on the cover. It would be nice to have 
a field for that in the database also.
