i agree that the ui should not be clogged with too much blinking (maybe 
have an extra trade-show-booth mode with all belss and whistles as an 
option:), so small warning lights are ideal.
but it should be possible to open a specialized meter with one click (in 
a perfect world).

yes, that would be fantastic.

as for hum warning and i18n: imagine a newbie sitting in front of yast 
or whatever setup tool being asked to enter their power grid cycles :)
but you could probably auto-detect that from crappy onboard sound :)
